Product Description

The first Rebbe of Lubavitch, Rabbi Schneur Zalman of Liadi, gave the world a tremendous gift, a detailed look at the Torah from a Chasidic perspective. Likkutei Torah is now available in a handsomely bound volume, the text reset in a highly readable Hebrew font. This book serves as both an educational and aesthetic enhancement to any library.

Includes: Chasidic Discourses on the Torah portions of Beshalach, Pikudei, the Books of Vayikra, Bamidbar, Devarim and the Song of Songs, as well as the special seasons of Pesach and Shavuot, and of Rosh Hashanah, Shabbat Shuvah, Yom Kippur, Sukkot, and Shemini Atzeret.

During his leadership, the Alter Rebbe, would address his congregation each Shabbat and Holy Day with a discourse, illuminating the basic principles of Chabad Chasidus. The majority of the discourses were recorded by qualified transcribers, principally his brothers, sons, and the elder Chasidim Many were later revised and corrected by the Alter Rebbe himself. The Tzemach Tzedek, grandson and principal student of the Alter Rebbe, labored for many years to select and organize the discourses that he considered fundamental. He added references to Talmud, Zohar, and the writings of the Arizal, and his own glosses. He reviewed more than two thousand discourses in order to compile Likkutei Torah.

Likkutei Torah is actually a second volumefollowing the first volume, named Torah Or, containing discourses on Bereishit, Shemot, and the Book of Esther, which was first printed 5597 (1837). Likkutei Torah first appeared 5608 (1848). The delay and change of name reflect difficulties with the censor.

Chasidim of all generations have studied each group of discourses weekly, affectionately called the Chasidic Parsha.
